Drawing More Course Description:
In this 8-week course, you will continue honing your skills at drawing realistically from direct observation of the world around us. We’ll practice drawing ordinary objects, still-life arrangements, rooms / hallways, plants, people, self-portraits, and maybe even outdoors (weather permitting). We’ll work in graphite pencil, charcoal, Conté, and chalk pastel.
Compared to a beginner drawing class, we’ll devote more energy to honing the skills you’ve already begun developing. We’ll make longer drawings and more-detailed drawings. We’ll explore more drawing media (perhaps even ink). We’ll practice seeing color and using it in various modes (e.g., expressive, realistic). And we’ll practice “challenging” subjects like people, hands, and portraits.
We’ll start with a basics refresher day, practicing line drawing and skills for seeing and drawing accurate proportions (e.g., pencil sighting, relative measuring), as well as a review of shading skills. After that, we’ll dive into new challenges!
This Drawing More course is suitable for a wide range of participants, from near-beginners with a little experience to folks who want to dust off their drawing skills and get back into practice!
Is This Course Really for Me?
- You’re welcome to take this course as a social activity with a friend or loved one – or show up solo and meet new people!
- Did you recently take Drawing Basics or another beginner drawing class? This course is the next step to continue building and refining your skills at drawing from life!
- Maybe you’re interested in studying art in college, and you want to start building your skills and working on your application portfolio.
- Maybe you’ve done some drawing on your own, but you’re looking for more structure and want feedback on your drawings.
- Do you have a lot of past experience with art? You could approach this course as an artistic “reboot” to jumpstart your creativity!

Art 101 Description:
Across these four classes, you will learn hands-on art skills, general design principles, and some basic color theory. We’ll do projects which will allow you to experiment with four different types of artmaking: cut-paper collage, monoprinting (relief printmaking), basic weaving, and contour line drawing.
Each project will utilize different skills, from observational drawing to paper-cutting, from black-and-white designs to working with color. As a class, we’ll view and discuss everyone’s work, giving you the opportunity to engage with and learn from your classmates.
Our projects make room for individualization and creative expression, which makes these classes suitable for people coming in at a variety of experience levels. You could be a beginner with zero art background or an intermediate-level artist who wants to learn some new skills or get back into making art!
